Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay; sons, Brian (Betty) and Bruce (Twila); and granddaughters, Melissa and Katie; his brother, Tony (Doris); sisters-in-law, Rita and Rose Walliser, and Mary Sernick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his son, Scott in 1995; his parents, Jacob and Mathilde; his parents-in-law Frank and Maud Sernick; brothers, John (Laura), Mike, Ralph, Ole (Helen), and Jake (Marie); sisters, Emily (Metro) Katrusik, Ella (Joe) Pryznyk, and Rose (Mel) McNutt; and brother-in-law Tom Sernick.

Joe was born on a farm near Bienfait, SK. where he attended school prior to starting a 35 year career with the Government of Saskatchewan in 1953 with the Department of Highways. He retired as a Project Supervisor with Highways in 1987. Upon retirement Joe continued to work in the construction industry as a consultant for Brent Construction, Clunie Consulting and Engineers, and Kirsh Construction until 1990.

Joe enjoyed his cabin at Emma Lake since 1975, and was proud of the fact that he was invited to a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1952. Joe loved baseball, curling, golf and hockey as both a player and fan. He was an avid follower of the PA Raiders and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
